Alberta MP John Barlow will step in on the agriculture file for the first session of the 43rd Parliament, replacing MP Luc Berthold as Agriculture and Agri-Food shadow minister.
Conservative Party of Canada leader Andrew Scheer named Barlow to the post while moving Berthold to shadow minister of Infrastructure and Communities.
Originally from Saskatchewan, Barlow most recently won his seat in the Foothills riding of Alberta where he’s lived for the past 20 some years with his family of five.
Honoured. Humbled. Grateful.
Parliament resumes on Dec 5 & I have officially been sworn in as the MP for #Foothills. The privilege of Shadow Minister for #CdnAg has also been bestowed on me by Conservative leader @AndrewScheer. It is a great honour and privilege. #cdnpoli pic.twitter.com/kasQwd0mka— John Barlow (@JohnBarlowMP) December 2, 2019
Barlow is no stranger to the file, back in 2016, Scheer appointed him as agriculture shadow minister for a year.
“I think for the Conservatives, Barlow is a good choice with his roots in agriculture,” says Shaun Haney, RealAgriculture founder. “I would expect he will be very focused on Canada regaining access to export markets and improving business risk management programs.”
The 43rd Parliament resumes December 5th, 2019.
