There have been 360 cases of COVID-19 linked to Cargill’s beef packing plant at High River, Alberta, as of Tuesday afternoon.
Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw shared the news as part of her daily update on April 20.
The Cargill plant, which accounts for 36 percent of Canadian beef processing capacity, suspended cattle kills earlier this week in an attempt to address the outbreak.
Hinshaw says the updated case total involves connected households in High River and surrounding communities. She says it appears the virus has spread via household transmission.
Alberta Health Services has organized a dedicated response team to address the outbreak in High River.
As of Tuesday afternoon, Alberta has had a total of 2,908 cases of COVID-19.
