The Ontario government has announced that farmers will have until June 30, 2020 to apply for or make changes to coverage under the risk management program (RMP) for Livestock and RMP: Grains and Oilseeds, Ontario’s crop and livestock insurance programs.
Extending the RMP deadlines “gives farmers more time to make business decisions and to assess their program coverage needs, especially while dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. This support is critical for the agricultural industry,” Agricorp says on its website.
Coverage options for 2020 are not affected, and any program delays will not cause gaps in coverage.
Agricorp sent renewals to livestock producers in February, and RMP: Grains and Oilseeds renewals are currently in the mail. Both are also available through online services at agricorp.com. SDRM: Edible Horticulture packages go out in the fall.
Although the deadline has changed, producers should apply or change coverage as soon as they’re ready to get their coverage in place, Agricorp says.
As part of a broader #COVID19 response & plan to support our agriculture sector, today we communicated extensions of the RMP livestock deadline for new participants & enrolment changes to June 30, 2020. This will help give more flexibility for our farmers during this time. #OntAg pic.twitter.com/bgP4HDZgWn
