Crop Development Centre appoints new director

Enhancing existing crops, creating novel uses for traditional crops, and developing new crops in Western Canada has been the consistent effort of the Crop Development Centre (CDC) for the last 50 years.

Curtis Pozniak has been appointed by the CDC as new director at the University of Saskatchewan.

Pozniak says as new director, he will continue to work with funders, partners, and producers to advance the core vision of the CDC.

“The CDC has been remarkably successful, releasing more than 450 new crop varieties and contributing significantly to the agricultural economy of Saskatchewan and Western Canada,” says Pozniak.

Pozniak received a BSc in Agriculture in 1999, and a PhD in Plant Genetics and Breeding from the U of S in 2002, and has been a faculty member of the College of Ag and Bioresources since 2003. Since then, he has released 15 new varieties of durum wheat and is a recognized leader in the application of wheat genomics for cultivar improvement, with more than 140 published research papers.

Pozniak will begin his five-year term as director on July 1, 2020.
