With nearly all farm shows and in-person events cancelled or moved online, a community event is rather rare this time of year. And that’s proving rather challenging for many rural communities who are so used to using the warm summer field days as a way to learn, connect, and maybe even commiserate in the beverage tent.
Thunderstruck Ag decided that this in-person sharing was too important to completely miss out on, and so kicked off the Thank you For Farming tour in late June. The three province, nine event tour is all about de-stressing, spending a little (physically distanced) time together, and a way to say thanks, says Thunderstruck Ag’s Jeremy Matuszewski.
Shaun Haney, host of RealAg Radio on Sirius XM Rural Radio channel 147, caught up with host Matuszewski and speaker Lesley Kelly at one of the events to talk about the experience, share farmer feedback, and plug where they will be next.
With one more week of events set to happen, all in Saskatchewan, the Thank You for Farming tour has been about supporting local farmers and their communities, says Matuszewski, and each stop features the use of local venues, rentals, food, and beverage providers. Matuszewski says that a $1,000 donation to 4-H clubs is being made at each location.
Check out the video below with Matuszewski and Kelly from the cab at the Enchant, Alta., event held July 17.
