New rules prompt revamp of livestock transport training course

The National Farmed Animal Health and Welfare Council has updated the Canadian Livestock Transport (CLT) program to reflect the latest changes to federal livestock transport regulations.

The CLT program is a comprehensive training course and support service for livestock truckers, shippers, and receivers. The program offers certification that is recognized throughout Canada and United States. The program is led by an industry initiative to address the need for increased accountability and improved handling practices in livestock transport.

New transport regulations came into effect in February 2020, with a one-year education and implementation phase-in of the new rules.

Those hiring transport crews can also use the site (https://www.livestocktransport.ca/) to verify if the company they plan to use has completed the training and is a verified hauler.
