Canada’s Outdoor Farm Show proposes to buy part of land base and build demonstration farm

by

The Ontario government plans to sell a portion of the Woodstock Research Station to the owners of Canada’s Outdoor Farm Show (COFS), Glacier FarmMedia.

Currently, the farm show leases Section 1 of the Woodstock Research Station property from the Agricultural Research Institute of Ontario (ARIO) for the purpose of operating Canada’s Outdoor Farm Show, held each September.

This proposed sale of 100 acres would secure a permanent home for COFS, the province says. The additional land the site uses would continue to be leased.

The company says it plans to build a demonstration farm on site, including a soil health and sustainability centre, and a student-centred learning area in partnership with Grain Farmers of Ontario.

Finalization of the sale is contingent on fulfillment of the duty to consult and all legal requirements, the province says. The financial details of the proposal were not disclosed.
