Sustainability is a key topic in the beef industry right now, in both production and marketing. What makes sustainability all that more complex, is that it has so many different definitions depending on which part of the supply chain you belong.
RealAgriculture founder and RealAg Radio host Shaun Haney recently moderated a panel discussion on the subject of sustainability at the Canadian Beef Industry Conference, held virtually this year.
Featured in the discussion were panelists:
- Maryjo Tait from Celtic Ridge Farms, a family run cow/calf operation that sells direct to consumer, practicing rotational and strip-grazing, near London Ont.;
- Karleen Clark from KCL Cattle Company, a mixed cattle feeding a farming operation in Lethbridge County, Alta.;
- Darren Frey, national merchandising manager of red meats and entrees at the broad-line distributor Gordon Food Service; and,
- Marcel Blais, president of Chop Steakhouse & Bar, which has locations 14 locations across Canada
