Who should we hire to endorse agriculture?


In a recent RealAg LIVE feature with Michelle Miller (aka The Farm Babe), the issue of advocacy in agriculture came up. Promoting the industry and connecting with consumers has become more important, but how does agriculture amplify its voice?

Miller, and others, think a celebrity might be the ticket. They would appeal to the general public, and be someone who can influence perceptions, but also connect with those that aren’t in the “agriculture bubble” or those who want to understand what farmers are doing well, especially when it comes to sustainability.

On a previous Farmer Rapid Fire, Haney asked farmers “If agriculture could have one celebrity endorser, who do you think it should be?”

Answers from the RealAg radio show and from an audience call-in ranged from Bill Gates, to Ryan Reynolds, Steve Yzerman, to a new or upcoming politician. The diversity of answers is a great start —  because there isn’t any one audience or one demographic we need to connect with. We need to connect with them all!

On the flip side, other farmers felt that agriculture shouldn’t have any celebrity endorsement, and perhaps we need to be endorsing ourselves.
