Wild winds whip across southern prairies

by

Let’s face it — the prairies are no stranger to winds. However, Wednesday’s wind events have wreaked some intense havoc across southern Alberta and southern Saskatchewan, and the pressure system is expected to continue heading east.

This isn’t just a matter of 20 km/hr winds — many areas have experienced 80 km/hr and up winds, and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down. Power outages have plagued many areas, and more than just trampolines are blowing. Environment Canada wind warnings are calling for 120 km/hr gusts for the Calgary area and south, and those speeds have definitely been reached. Reports have shown pockets of south eastern Alberta reaching upwards of 137 km/hr gusts.

I compiled a gallery of photos of some of the damage — so thank you to all that participated. We are extending our sympathies to those that will now have a pressure-induced headache due to these winds, or have damages to clean up.

Mother Nature, if you’re seeing this — take a chill-pill, alright?
