Rising commodity prices beginning to be reflected in equipment sale numbers

by

April monthly tractor and combine sales were positive across all segments in Canada, according to the Association of Equipment Manufacturer’s (AEM) latest numbers.

April monthly sales in the 4WD segment nearly doubled, up 93.3 percent to 201 units sold, while total farm tractor monthly sales were up 72.3 percent to 3,671 units sold. Self-propelled combines also grew 23.1 percent.

To break it down further, 2WD tractors, under 40 horsepower grew by 80.1 per cent year-to-date, followed by 40 to under 100 horsepower tractors, and 100+ horsepower tractors growing by 39.7 per cent and 38.7 per cent, respectively.

Four-wheel-drive tractor sales grew 73.1 per cent, year-to-date, while self-propelled combines also saw some growth at 20.1 per cent, year-to-date.

“April was the month we were watching to see how this growth trend would look once it hit the official twelve-month mark,” says Curt Blades, senior vice president of ag services at AEM. “Seeing the larger row-crop units leading the way in segment gains shows the pull rising commodity prices have been having on equipment sales.”
