BCRC creates beef cattle and carbon cycle webpage

by

The Beef Cattle Research Council (BCRC) has created a new webpage title “Beef Cattle and the Carbon Cycle” to assist individuals, organizations, and entire industries working to better understand the environmental implications of their activities.

The webpage, which can be found here, defines terms like carbon sequestration, climate change, carbon footprint and greenhouse gas emissions, and explains how beef production plays into the carbon cycle. The webpage features information on:

  • the carbon cycle;
  • carbon sequestration on grasslands;
  • carbon storage and land use practices;
  • management practices to increase carbon sequestration; and,
  • trading carbon through credits or offsets

BCRC, Canada’s industry-led funding agency for beef, cattle, and forage research, is funded through a portion of the Canadian Beef Cattle Check-Off, as well as by government and industry funding.
