Danuser Machine Company’s new Hornet post driver was unveiled at Farm Progress Show back in August.
The Hornet is a quick and powerful post driver with a jack hammer style power cell that offers a controlled, high-speed driving performance, the company says.
There are two models available: the T7 and the T8-RR.
“This is our Hornet jack-hammer style post driver. This is a model T8-RR, so what that means is T is t-post, up to eight inch diameter, and the RR means it has the ability to switch the driving tool, then you can drive railroad ties,” said Glenn Danuser recently at Farm Progress Show.
The other model available is the T7, which can drive t-posts up to seven inches in diameter.
Although the product won’t be launched until April, 2022, Danuser says that users can look forward to impact energy around 800 foot-pounds (around 884 on the larger model) and can do up to 800 hits per minute.
There’s a manifold on the T8-RR, giving it the ability to flow up to 30 gallons per minute.
“Some other jack-hammer drivers on the market have very narrow gpm ranges — like 12 to 18 or 12 to 20 — so we’re going to go all the way up to 30 gallons, and anything over 30 gallons, it’ll just turn the oil back to the vehicle,” says Danuser.
Danuser sees a good fit for the product with driving steel posts, due to its rapid chisel effect, and quick shut off at the proper depth, assisted by the depth chain.
The grapple feature has a one-man grapple option, which can take the posts off the ground and load it. When stored on a trailer or truck, the grapple can be locked out, and the foot lowered, making four points of contact on the trailer.
Fourteen suitcase plates are available in a weight kit option, for a total of 616 pounds of additional weight and on the T8-RR that makes up the 2250 pounds of machine, depending on capability of the skid-steer it’s attached to, says Danuser.
The toolless driving tool allows for quick change, which means no hammer and punch needed to change driving tools. The Hornet comes standard with a domed driving tool, but flat driving tools as well as a flat RR tie tool (T8-RR only) can also be purchased.
