Hay season can be demanding, and there’s nothing worse than hay on the ground and a rain cloud coming in.
Case IH has a new line-up of windrowers, the WD5 series, that it says offers more consistent dry down and fast speeds, which could be an operational solution for hay producers out there.
“The new WD5 series that’s behind me is an all-new windrower that we’ve released here at Farm Progress Show,” says Leo Bose, commercial training manager at Case IH, at the 2021 show at Decatur, Illinois.
The windrower has been redesigned from the ground up, from the knife-tip all the way to the rear axle, says Bose, for more quality hay in a day.
The axle chassis of the machine has been lengthened by 10 inches, and then, based on customer feedback, Case IH changed the ground drive system to achieve better speeds. While cutting, the machine can go up to 20 miles per hour, and 30 miles per hour for road transport, with rear-assist for stability, he says.
“So, when you take a look at it, with a 19-foot header, that’s up to 39 acres an hour,” says Bose.
In addition to improved precision ground drive systems, the new windrowers offer precise cutting accuracy, within 1.5 inches. With the Advanced Farming Systems Pro 700 display technology integrated into the cab, pass-to-pass overlap is reduced, even at field speeds up to 20 mph, Bose adds.
A heated and ventilated signature red seat ensure comfort in the cab for long hours, says Bose. But, improvements don’t stop there in the cab — Case IH says its ecosystem mode speeds up or slows down while cutting, depending on thickness of hay, changing the RPM of the engine, saving in fuel too.
Headland management automates raising and lowering the header at headlands, at the push of a button, basically making the machine hands-free.
Sixteen- and 19-foot headers are available, and come with a three year warranty, from knife-tip to the back of the conditioning roll.
Bose says any Case IH dealer in North America can be contacted for more information or ordering.
