Dry grain in the bin with Thunderstruck’s grain dryer

by

Thunderstruck Ag has launched a new grain dryer product, the ThunderDryer from GO Technologies.

“The ThunderDryer gives you the opportunity to condition and dry your grain in your bin allowing you to take your grain off the field in better conditions and operate your harvest in less than favourable conditions,” says the company’s website.

Jeremy Matuszewski, president of Thunderstruck Ag, says the product is not a replacement for a conventional grain dryer, in this interview from Western Canadian Crop Production Show, January, 2022.

“What we’re trying to do with this is try to create a warm, breezy day inside a bin,” says Matuszewski, “This is a portable device that moves from bin to bin.”

Either a 220, 000 BTU burner or a 440,000 BTU burner feeds into a heating chamber, where inside, there are four, four-inch radiant pipes that create the heat. Then there’s a vent that takes out the combustion gases.

The new drier works on positive pressure and will not shut down with static pressure. Flu gasses are vented off before they enter the bin, so water vapour is not a concern.

In the video, Matuszewski talks about early adopter testimonials, one in particular from a soybean grower in Ontario that was able to dry down six points of moisture in eight days, and it cost only $900 in propane.

The ThunderDryer can dry up to two bins per drier. There are different fan and burner size options, to do any size of bin, depending on what’s going in the bin.
