Liquid fertilizer applications just got more fine-tuned

The EVO LFS from Capstan Ag Systems is a turn compensation variable rate sectional control module for air drills. The new product was featured at the Western Canadian Crop Production Show (WCCPS) in Saskatoon, Sask.

Garnet Welykholowa of Capstan Ag Systems breaks down what the new product is about in the interview below.

“Capstan designed a modular system here for distribution,” says Welykholowa, featuring the same pulse width modulation that Capstan is known for, coupled with the EVO electronics package, giving even flow distribution down the shank.

The Capstan box has a pressure set point and within the system there’s a flow meter and rate controller, which controls solenoids that open and close for variable rate.

“The neat part about this is that you’ve got one [module] per section so whether your drill is 40 feet, and four sections to 80 feet and eight sections, and bigger,” says Welykholowa. When you get into a turn, much like on a sprayer, liquid fertilizer is injected slower on the inside of the corner and quicker on the outside, under and over-applying.

The EVO LFS can be retrofitted to any drill — one farmer even rigged up a Degelman harrow-bar, extending fill-times on two seeders.
