Farmers may be familiar with Morris Industries’ Quantum air seeder, but the company has recently made some updates to openers, too.
“We’ve gone to a complete-cast opener on the unit sitting on the frame here,” says Garrie MacKay, district manager at Morris Industries, in this interview with Kara Oosterhuis at Western Canadian Crop Production Show, held in Saskatoon, Sask.
The new robust, sturdy openers are very similar to the previous opener with easy cam adjustment — one notch on the cam is one quarter inch in the field. According to MacKay, producers won’t notice a difference, because ergonomically they’re exactly the same.
However, they will notice the durability of paired-row or side-band opener wear, as carbide has been added to the complete wing design.
“When this is going through the ground, it’s a half-inch nose on here and it doesn’t explode the ground, it’ll leave it intact,” says MacKay, explaining how the new opener places seed in the ground.
The new openers will fit any Contour 2 or Quantum air seeder from Morris Industries and are available to the North American and Australian markets, where they’ve had great success, says MacKay.
