South Korea has announced it will end its almost month-long ban on buying Canadian beef.
The ban lasted almost one month, after an atypical case of BSE was reported in a beef cow on an Alberta farm Dec. 17, 2021. South Korea closed its doors to Canadian beef on Dec. 21.
This morning, South Korea announced that it would lift the temporary suspension on ?? beef imports imposed last month after the discovery of an atypical BSE case in Alberta. Great news for our cattle sector, who provide the world with safe, high-quality beef #CdnBeef #CdnAg

“CCA appreciates all of the work done to have the temporary export suspension to South Korea lifted as soon as it was. Expanding and maintaining access to diverse markets is our top trade priority,” says Bob Lowe, president of the Canadian Cattlemen’s Association.
The Philippines issued a temporary suspension on beef imports from Canada on Jan. 5, and the Chinese customs administration stopped issuing certificates for beef and beef products from Canada on Jan. 7, 2022. No word yet if either country will follow South Korea’s lead.
