After being back on the road and attending several trade shows filled with machinery, one thing is certain — combines aren’t getting smaller, and neither are the headers.
Kevin Forth, tactical marketing manager for Fendt, was on hand at Commodity Classic at New Orleans, Louisiana, to showcase the latest addition to the Fendt IDEAL combine — the Dynaflex 9350 header, which also happens to be one of the largest headers available from an original equipment manufacturer (OEM), sitting at 50 ft wide.
The header is meant to target bushier crops, such as canola, explains Forth.
“It has the top augers to feed in those heavier bushier crops. It’s super high capacity for the super big machine we’ve got behind us,” he explains.
When looking at efficiency in the field, you can’t necessarily increase the speed at which you can thrash (or thresh, if you prefer) the crop, which is why, as Forth explains, they decided to add width to the header.
“The 10T 790 is the largest combine in North America, so it needs a lot of crop,” he says.
