Romantic dates in Hawaii with your own personal chef and sunset massages sounds nice and all, but let’s be real — sorting livestock and fixing fence is a lot more telling of a person and, potentially, the compatibility of a couple.
CTV has announced a new reality show, Farming For Love, a series that will show five Canadian farmers on their quest for love, and we can’t wait to see what the show has in store to put the potential mates to the test.
Considering we, RealAgriculture, arguably have the best and broadest audience comprised of farmers from all walks of life and agriculture professionals, who better to weigh in on the show and what classic farming scenarios would serve as great date ideas?
We posted the question over on Twitter and received not only some practical and comical date ideas, but also real farming couples’ first-hand accounts of love on the farm… some of which are also quite comical — and true.
Almost every date I’ve been on has involved a parts run. That’s for when we feel like getting fancy and going to the city. Nothing like bringing a greasy hydraulic hose in while doing your best not to get it on your best jeans.

The crop check trick, “Honey let’s go for a drive and get an ice cream.” turns into a day long journey checking fields for bugs, storm damage and weeds.
The gate date, “Let’s go check some cows, you can ride shot-gun” means you get the gates, all the gates all the time.

If there isn’t an episode sorting livestock, there’s no point to the show.

We may have to wait a while to see what transpires from the show, as CTV just announced its casting call for the reality series. Eligible farmers can apply at ctv.ca with the caveat being that they are looking to cast farmers and ranchers based out of British Columbia.
