The Agronomists, Ep 59: Deb Campbell and Anne Kirk on crop selection swap outs

There’s a certain number of acres that switch from one crop to another every spring, but #plant22 could be unlike any other, given the global uncertainty, sky-high crop prices, input supply chain disruptions, and pricey fertilizer.

A last minute cropping change requires a bit of homework, however. To tackle what’s at issue, we go to Deb Campbell, owner of Agronomy Advantage, and Anne Kirk, provincial cereal specialist for Manitoba Agriculture. From carryover risk, to rotation value, to supply, and crop prices, check out this episode of The Agronomists!

  • Some crop plans are on their fourth or fifth version
  • Take good notes!
  • Clip 1: Root rot risk for pulses
  • There will be many winter wheat acres that don’t make it

  • Chickpeas in Manitoba? Say what?
  • Clip 2: The value of wheat in rotation
