More than a thousand workers at two CNH Industrial (CNHi) plants in the U.S. that make farm tractors and construction equipment have gone on strike, as of May 2 at noon.
The United Auto Workers said workers in Racine, Wisconsin and Burlington, Iowa set up picket lines after “the company failed to present an agreement that met member demands and needs.” Union members voted in favour of strike authorization in early April, ahead of their collective bargaining agreement expiring April 30.
“Our members at CNHi strike for the ability to earn a decent living, retire with dignity and establish fair work rules,” said Chuck Browning, Vice President and director of the UAW’s Agricultural Implement Department, in a statement. “We stay committed to bargaining until our members goals are achieved.”
The Racine plant is home to manufacturing of Case IH’s Magnum tractor series (pictured above), while the Burlington plant produces more construction-type equipment.
The strike by UAW members at CNH follows a high-profile five-week strike by UAW members working for John Deere in the fall of 2021. That strike resulted in UAW Deere employees receiving immediate 10 per cent raises and improved benefits.
