Cargill has broken ground on its $350 million canola processing facility at Regina, Saskatchewan.
The new facility is projected to have an annual production capacity of 1 million metric tons and will support the growing global demand for canola products, the company says.
Cargill anticipates the project to be completed by 2024.
The new facility is Cargill’s second canola processing facility in Saskatchewan and third in Western Canada.
“We’re excited to be building a new state-of-the art canola processing facility in Regina,” says Jeff Vassart, president of Cargill Canada. “We see strong potential in the growth and competitiveness of the canola processing industry and look forward to helping farmers across Saskatchewan access the increasing market demand.”
The Cargill crush plant is one of several announced for the Queen City over the next few years. As of January 2022, the combined announced expanded crush tallied up to 7 million tonnes more per year. However, last month, Ceres Global announced plans to shelve its expanded crush plant and refinery, citing increasing costs.
