After bringing its first prototype to Canada in 2020, Horsch is into full production with its Leeb VL sprayer for North America.
Several features with the Leeb are designed to maximize the hours the sprayer can run every year, including days when wind is not cooperating, says Mike Wasylyniuk, Horsch’s sprayer product manager, in the video below.
“So we’re gonna lower the boom, right down to the ground, we’re going to try to get that drift reduced, do a better job with the spray, keep it on your crop, off the neighbor’s crop, and get more hours on the machine,” he says.
An extra hinge point on each side of the boom allows it to “smile” or “frown” to contour with the ground, staying closer to the target. On flat fields, Wasylyniuk says the machine can drive 20mph at sub-20 inch boom heights. “On fields with more hills, I usually say probably 75 per cent to 50 per cent of boom heights, you’re usually running at around the same speed.”
Going that low also requires narrower nozzle spacing than the traditional 20 inch spacing on North American sprayers, so Horsch is speccing its machines with 10″ nozzles with alternating spray patterns.
