CLAAS rolls out first half-track tractor with full suspension in North America

by

The first half-track tractor model with full suspension in North America was on display at the 2022 Ag in Motion farm show, as CLAAS rolled out its new Axion 900-series Terra Trac machine.

“We’ve got full suspension underneath this thing, so the traction and the ride is just greatly improved when you go to this system,” explains Rick Hubrick, product supervisor in Canada for CLAAS, in the video below.

With a front-wheel, rear-track design with independent suspension, CLAAS says the tractor produces 25 percent less ground pressure, 15 percent greater traction, and reduced soil disturbance and berming.

The Axion 960 and 930 models, with 440 and 350 horsepower, are available to order in Terra Trac models. They are currently available with 25, 29 or 35-inch belts. The company says 18-inch belts on 88 and 120-inch centres will be available in 2023.

CLAAS is planning to roll the tractors out in the U.S. at the Farm Progress Show at Boone, Iowa, Aug. 31 to Sept. 1.
