Two agronomic powerhouses, BASF and Corteva Agriscience, recently announced a long-term joint venture which looks to provide advanced weed control solutions for soybean farmers.
The companies have entered into a collaboration where both agreed to cross-license soybean traits that in turn would enable the development of complementary herbicide technologies. Reps for both companies were on-site at the Farm Progress Show in Boone, Iowa, to talk about the benefits of the union.
“It’s bringing opportunities for farmers to control weeds and today, we have our list platform, which is really grown and being a real solution out there for farmers and we’re stacking on top of that now, really new weed control options and new chemistry for really the next couple of decades,” says Sam Huntington with Corteva.
The goal is to provide the farmer with quality innovation and weed control options which will allow for herbicide-tolerant soybeans. The collaboration is in the works now and is on target to bring it’s first offering to farmers in 2030.
“We still gotta go through some additional regulatory processes to get that deregulated in the Americas and around the world,” says Huntington.
This collaboration is said to be the first “multigenerational soybean weed management by cross-licensing new technologies and complementary herbicides.”
