The annual Ontario crop diagnostic days were back in the field on July 20 and 21, 2022, but only at Ridgetown campus University of Guelph.
Not everyone could attend these two field days, so the organizing committees of these highly successful in-field education and learning events are again partnering with crop researchers and extension, along with support from RealAgriculture and a host of sponsors to bring you a hybrid version of the field days. In September, four virtual Ontario Diagnostic Days episodes will be published.
Diagnostic Days presenters will also guest on two live and interactive episodes of The Agronomists on Oct 17 and Oct 31. There will be plenty of crop diagnostic insights and opportunities for CEU credits in the weeks ahead. We’ll have info on CEU credits during each episode.
2022 Diagnostic Days was a transition back to in-field events, combining Southwest (Ridgetown), Elora and Eastern Ontario (Winchester) Crop Diagnostic Days into one hybrid provincial diagnostic day event. It featured eight 30-minute sessions relevant to farmers, crop consultants, and retailers. Four CEU credits will be available for those attending the in-person event as well as those who watch the sessions virtually.

The first episode kicks off with RealAgriculture agronomist Peter Johnson and OMAFRA’s acting cereals specialist Sophie Krolikowski. They discuss what growers can learn from Ontario’s last two winter wheat crops and share strategies for 2023 success. We then move into a cover crop compendium with OMAFRA soil management specialist Anne Verhallen and University of Guelph crop associate Kris McNaughton and crop technician Sean Vink. They’ll discuss why it’s important to have a cover crop plan and what growers need to include — from species to seeding rate and termination.
