John Deere launches new satellite-based GPS receiver

The StarFire 7000 is John Deere’s newest GPS receiver the company says this model offers several improvements over the last.

Tyson Miazga, product systems specialist with John Deere, met with Real Agriculture’s Atley Hamlin at last week’s Western Canada Crop Production Show at Saskatoon to talk about the StarFire 7000 receiver.

Miazga says, it is equipped with a satellite correction signal SF-RTK, instead of using a signal from a local base unit. The satellite capabilities give the StarFire 7000, horizontal, pass-to-pass sub-inch accuracy.

The unit can be utilized on a tractor and also added to implements to ensure accuracy. The receiver is capable of active or passive implement guidance to navigate fields, Miazga says.

Miazga says this new receiver also has over twenty serviceable parts allowing for it to be repaired, a huge advantage over the older models. This ability to repair and maintain the receiver should mean they will last users longer.

There is a yearly subscription for the satellite signal use, and pricing for the subscription along with pricing for the StarFire 7000 will be announced later this year.
