SeedMaster has introduced several upgrades and options for the 2023 model of the Ultra-SR drill.
Single-rank machines like the Ultra-SR have had challenges with residue management in the past, but SeedMaster has solved this problem with a new residue management system. They are introducing options for different fertilizer types and increased capacity, as well, says Tim Criddle, global sales director at SeedMaster.
SeedMaster had limited runs of production of the Ultra- SR for 2019 through 2021 and full production in model year 2022. Now, in 2023, SeedMaster has made improvements to the drill, offering different options and a patented residue management system.
The liquid set up for the Ultra-SR can be fitted with a 2,100 gallon tank for liquid fertilizer. There are two seed tanks at the front of the implement with a total capacity of 300 bushels; one 60 bushel tank for small grain and a 240 bushel tank for cereals and pulses. Criddle says this new configuration increases the total capacity of the drill when compared to the traditional configuration, with about 750 bushel capacity.
The Ultra- SR is a single-rank drill, meaning openers are inline on one row, which can present a challenge in managing residue. Criddle explains that SeedMaster’s rotary residue management system — made up of spoked wheels between openers across the implement — pull all residue between the rows, to leave a clean field finish behind the machine.
This residue management system is effective in leaving a clean black furrow for seed germination and leaves organic matter between the rows to preserve moisture and suppress weed germination, he says.
