Beef costs, transport, and trade up for discussion at National Cattlemen’s Beef Association convention

by

Members of the U.S. and North American cattle industry are meeting at New Orleans, Louisiana, right now attending the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) convention.

RealAgriculture founder Shaun Haney is at the conference, and spoke with Colin Woodall, CEO of NCBA, about the priority topics at this year’s meeting.

Cost of production is of course a hot topic, Woodall says, as increasing costs have hit everyone with higher feed and fuel bills. But demand has stayed strong for beef, and customers have stuck with the protein even as food prices climb, too.

On the docket for days ahead will be discussions on industry issues, such as the cattle contract library pilot project, where some contract details will be made public for review.

Then, of course, there is trade, and Woodall says he really hopes the Biden government sets the course for a strong focus on trade for the remaining two years of the administration.
