Buckle up! Bernard Tobin joins RealAgriculture full time

by

Long-time contributor Bernard Tobin is now a full-time member of the RealAgriculture team.

The Newfoundland native, who grew up on a dairy farm just outside St. John’s, has had a seat on the RealAgriculture bus for more than 10 years, but he’s always lent his talents to other media and communications projects as well. Over the past decade, Tobin has contributed to all areas of RealAgriculture’s industry coverage, with much of his efforts focused on our crop schools and video series, including the Corn, Soybean, and Wheat Schools.

“Bern has been a part of RealAgriculture since nearly the very beginning,” says Shaun Haney, founder of RealAgriculture. “We are excited to have Bern’s time fully focused on delivering great coverage for the RealAgriculture audience from coast to coast.”

With growing demand for more agronomy and farm management content, Tobin will continue to lead the crop school development, which now includes Soil School, Edible Bean School and The Sharp Edge. Based in Southern Ontario, he’ll also cover key events and conferences for RealAgriculture, and put his writing skills to work on columns and feature articles.

“It’s been a tremendous journey. The RealAgriculture community and audience continues to expand and I’m looking forward to focusing all my energy on bringing more great information to farmers,” Tobin says.

Tobin has specialized in agricultural communications for almost 30 years, beginning his career with a seven-year stint as field editor and managing editor for Farm and Country magazine. He’s also worked for several of Canada’s leading agricultural communications and consulting firms, providing public relations, branding, and strategic marketing for a wide range of clients. He earned a political science degree from Memorial University and a journalism degree from Toronto Metropolitan University.

“I think I’ve got the best job in the world. I get to work with some amazing farmers, agronomists, and researchers. Everybody wants to share what they know and helping them tell their story is what I do best. RealAgriculture makes it all happen. It’s a great ride,” he says.
