Egg Farmers of Canada has announced a commitment to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
The announcement was made during EFC’s annual meeting in Ottawa this week, where it celebrated the 50th anniversary of the organization and supply management in Canadian egg production.
“Stepping up our commitment to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions is a natural extension of our already established holistic approach to sustainability—an approach that continues to guide our actions today and into the future,” said Roger Pelissero, chair of Egg Farmers of Canada. “A net-zero goal naturally builds on these efforts and further entrenches our commitment towards the environment in the core of our farming operations.”
He says EFC plans to develop and implement a roadmap to net-zero, beginning with a comprehensive consultation to evaluate how to scale up practices that reduce emissions.
Dairy Farmers of Canada and Grain Growers of Canada have also announced their intent to get to net-zero emissions in their respective sectors by 2050.
