Nuffield Canada will begin accepting applications April 1 for its next group of scholars. Applications will be accepted until June 30, 2023 for the 2024 scholar cohort.

Nuffield Canada annually offers four to six $20,000 scholarships to mid-career, Canadian men and women, aged about 25 to 50, with a “passion for agriculture who are ready to challenge themselves in a self-directed program of international travel and study.”

These scholarships are for the personal and professional development of those already established in various aspects of the agriculture industry, including those working in the primary production of food and fibre, and also health care, biofuels, forestry, aquaculture, and fisheries.

Eligible recipients may serve in any aspect of the industry including as owners, managers, employees, administrators, or bureaucrats, and all industry philosophies are welcome, including commercial, organic, cottage, medicinal, Indigenous and others, says Nuffield Canada.

Scholars are required to do a minimum of 10 weeks of travel study within 24 months to examine and research a topic or issue of their choosing that is relevant to modern production. Each scholar then prepares a written report of their research findings, conclusions, and recommendations, and presents a summary to the Nuffield Board, with peers, sponsors, and industry leaders in attendance.
