What is the biggest hurdle to you participating in skills development?

by

There are talents we’re born with, and then there are skills we develop. Even our talents, without practice or work, can only get us so far. Learning and development really never ends, if you think about it, and some of us truly lean in to on-going training, improving, and learning, but some of us just don’t prioritize it.

More formal learning, in all its forms, was the subject of our latest RealAgristudies survey. The findings suggest that marketing- and production-related topics are the most popular for farmers, which isn’t surprising given the day-to-day nature of both. What was really fascinating is that those who said they had attended a learning event on a certain topic always wanted to learn more about it. It suggests that once we start digging in to a particular topic, we want to know more and get in to a routine of learning.

For this week’s poll, we want to hear from those who haven’t made learning a priority and from those who find it challenging to work a skills development plan in to the calendar. Learning and training could be as informal as a webinar, or as formal as a multi-week, in-depth course — whatever the form, we want to know what’s the biggest holdback to doing more of it?
