Toromont Industries says it has entered into an agreement to sell its AgWest farm equipment dealerships in Manitoba to a Netherlands-based company as of May 1, 2023.
AgWest’s three main locations and three satellite dealerships in Manitoba are being acquired by Mechan International, which is part of Zweegers Equipment Group, led by CEO Gerrit van der Scheer.
Van der Scheer has extensive background selling AGCO and CLAAS products around the world as he was the CEO of Royal Reesink B.V. until 2021.
AgWest has its head office in Elie, Man., with dealerships in Brandon, Neepawa, and Morden, as well as parts depots in Russell, Steinbach, and Swan River. AGCO says the Manitoba dealerships will continue operating under the AgWest name, with the current locations, leadership team, and employees.
“Thanks to the dedicated AgWest team, loyal customers and strong supplier support, the AgWest business has improved consistently over the past few years. We wish Mechan and the entire AgWest team, continued success,” says Scott Medhurst, Toromont president and CEO.
Mechan’s acquisition offers “substantial growth opportunities for AGCO products in Manitoba, especially for our Fendt brand as it continues its very successful expansion into the region,” notes Bill Hurley, AGCO’s vice president of distribution – Americas.
The terms of the cash deal have not been disclosed.
Royal Reesink — the company Van der Scheer was previously with — has stakes in the GenAg and Hepson machinery dealerships in Manitoba.
