Aldred has turned capturing farm moments into a thriving business

by

Jodie Aldred loves to take pictures, and she’s turning her passion for farm snap shots into a burgeoning business.

After growing up on her family’s beef cow-calf and cash crop farm at West Lorne, Ont., like many farm kids, Aldred headed off to the corporate world. But it wasn’t long before the pictures of life on the farm pulled her back to what she loves best.

“Growing up on the farm, there were always moments I wanted to freeze,” says Aldred. “The beauty of these moments included the natural beauty of natures views, the sights of the family working together during the busy season and everyday moments.”

She eventually headed back to work on a farm where she started to carve out a photography career in agriculture. “I think if you look around within the industry, there’s a lack of real and raw (photography), as most photographers would say, portraying our industry exactly how it is, but in a in a nice way.”

Today, Aldred works with farm families and businesses to capture the agriculture industry from all angles, including crops, livestock, and the faces of the people she meets on the farm. Many of her photos also grace a range of products available in her Jodie Aldred Photography online store — from a ‘Farm Life’ clothing line to blankets, phone cases, and kids’ tumblers.

RealAgriculture’s Bernard Tobin caught up with Aldred at the Canadian Dairy XPO last month in Stratford, Ont. Check out the video interview below.
