The Flax Council of Canada has a new president, as Rick Mitzel has been named to the post, effective immediately.
Mitzel replaces Wayne Thompson, who has moved on to serve as executive director at the Western Grains Research Foundation. Mitzel will continue his role as executive director of Saskatchewan Mustard Development Commission and CEO of Mustard 21 in addition to his role as president for the Flax Council.
Mitzel’s 30-year career has been spent in marketing, marketing communications, product development, sales, and senior management positions in agriculture. He has a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Saskatchewan, and is a certified crop advisor and professional agrologist.
The board wishes to thank Wayne Thompson for his leadership and excellent work for the past five years. “Wayne’s leadership has been instrumental in helping to enable Flax Council of Canada to grow and evolve into a viable crop,” says Flax Council chair Erwin Hanley. “On behalf of the Flax Council of Canada board, I would like to thank Wayne for helping Flax Council of Canada deliver on it mission and vision and wish him nothing but success in his new ventures.”
