Holstein Canada has launched a new app to make it easier for producers to submit genomic test samples and complete registration for Holstein animals directly from their mobile phone or tablet.
Holstein Canada education and extension specialist Murilo Carvalho says the ConneXXion app was designed in response to producer requests for technology to help simplify the genomic testing process.
“The idea is to have an application that makes the producer’s life easier,” says Carvalho. “They don’t need to do in the computer. With the app they’re able to send the registrations right away when they’re in the barn with the calves.”
When collecting tissue samples from the animal’s ear, the app can be also be used to submit all the sample information. “It really is a faster and more convenient way to provide a service we offer,” adds Carvalho. He notes that producers can look for other services to be added to the app in future phases of development.
The ConneXXion app is available at the Google Play Store (Android devices) and the Apple App store (Apple devices).
At the recent Canadian Dairy XPO, Carvalho shared details on the app in this conversation with RealAgriculture’s Bernard Tobin.
