Alberta has declared a state of emergency as several wildfires burn across the province. As of late Sunday night, nearly 30,000 people had been evacuated from their homes. The province says there are currently 88 active wildfires in the Forest Protection Area, 25 of which are classified as out of control. (Editor’s note: this number is updated daily)
For grain farmers, many have been busy cultivating fire breaks or helping neighbours, however those with livestock, including cattle on pasture, time is of the essence to get these animals to safety.

Ranchers are moving quickly to move livestock out of the fires’ path.
The province says that evacuated farmers and ranchers can contact the wildfire resource line at 310-4455 with agriculture and livestock-related questions, and should register at the reception centre identified for their community so staff can quickly assist them. Farmers and ranchers may need
re-entry permits if they want to go back into an evacuated area to check on livestock and should check with their municipality before entering, the province says.
