Standing Committee on Agriculture chair Blois reviews recommendations for supporting Canadian agriculture

by

Last year, spurred by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food set out to better understand the impact of international volatility on grain and other commodity markets and the possible need for global aid.

Following that process, the Committee then decided to look further in to global food insecurity, by starting here at home. Last month, the Committee published a 70-page report recommending 22 different actions the government take to best support Canadian agriculture.

Kody Blois, Member of Parliament for Nova Scotia riding Kings-Hants, is the chair of the Standing Committee on Agriculture, and he joined RealAg Radio host Shaun Haney for a discussion on the report, the recommendations, and what happens next.

The report does list removing the fertilizer tariff as one recommendation, and Blois says that domestic fertilization production and movement is part of that same conversation. Also on the list: local food infrastructure, regulatory hurdles, payments for environmental goods and services, and labour.
