There’s so much to observe and learn from a well set-up trial.
This growing season, we’re following a set of trials with Robert MacDonald, manager of agronomic excellence with BASF, looking at several aspects of canola production.
Earlier, MacDonald dug into seeding rate and depth differences. In this episode of the Canola School, MacDonald runs through the nitrogen comparisons in the trial — from no added N, through to the average rate, to a high rate. The goal is to evaluate N recommendations and build a N response curve, as well as compare nitrogen use efficiency of different hybrids.
The trial will be taken to yield and protein, he notes, but early observations are already interesting. In the video, MacDonald compares growth rate, biomass, and flea beetle feeding recovery, and explains more about the trial:
