Richardson has made another move to diversify into food processing, announcing the acquisition of a 150-year old British malt company.
The Canadian grain company says it has acquired Ragleth Limited, the parent company of Anglia Maltings Limited, headquartered in Norfolk, England.
Anglia employs 360 people, operating seven malt facilities in the United Kingdom, Poland, and Germany. The company’s facilities have a combined capacity of 440 thousand metric tonnes.
Anglia’s business portfolio, parts of which date back to 1870, includes Crisp Malt, Micronized Food Products (MFP), and EDME Food Ingredients. Crisp Malt sources malted barley from farmers, serving breweries and distilleries and the food industry worldwide. MFP specializes in the production of cereals and pulses for brewing and animal feed, while EDME Food Ingredients focuses on selling malted and non-malted products to the baking industry.
“As experienced handlers of malting barley in North America, this is an exciting next step in our long-term strategy, which includes the diversification of our business and continued growth in the food processing industry,” notes Richardson CEO Curt Vossen.
Financial terms of the deal have not been announced.
The acquisition follows other major investments by Richardson over the last few years, including the acquisition of North America’s largest durum miller, Italgrani, in 2021.
