Ontario Sheep Farmers announces license fee increase

by

The Ontario Sheep Farmers (OSF) board has announced that license fees, sometimes called the check-off, will increase from $1.80 to $2.20, plus applicable taxes, per live animal sale effective October 1, 2023.

The increase in fee is the first in 13 years. OSF says the change is important for “the future success of the organization,” and implementing aspects of its five-year strategic plan, Building Strength for a Better Future.

OSF says its board of directors have committed funds to new initiatives to carry out the goals within the plan including market research, data collection, a wool pilot project and new courses.

“The new strategic plan prioritizes the relationship between the OSF board, the districts, and the members,” says John Hemsted, chair of OSF, in a letter to membership. “A new part-time Member Relations role beginning in the fall will improve dialogue with districts and coordinate activities across the province to ensure ongoing engagement and support of district committees and members. OSF will also maintain the delivery of our current programs at current levels, including supporting our local districts and members.”
