RealAg Shops, Ep 2: A hog barn revamp with Scott Douglas

by

Originally built in 1998, the Douglas’ hog barn today looks very little like it did.

A labour of love, Scott Douglas says, the original hog barn has been converted in to a well-laid out, well-equipped shop over the course of several years.

The Cloverview Farms shop had to navigate a few challenges during the build, like dealing with pits, but also used some of the original design of the barn to their benefit (those same pits can make for great fertilizer containment). An economical build in many ways, Douglas says the roof and first 9-feet of walls were all there — the added 9-feet of walls was the only real new construction.

That’s not to say there haven’t been significant updates and improvements made to the building. Plenty of concrete had to be cut and moved, and still more poured. But the result is a drive-through shop with room for all the equipment, plus there-when-you-need it cords and hoses, and a few back-saving designs, as well.
