Deere baler tracks real time weight and moisture

John Deere is giving hay producers more control of bale moisture and weights with the introduction of its 1 Series round baler.

Equipped with Bale Doc technology to document bale moisture and weight in near real time, Deere says the 1 Series will help farmers ensure optimal moisture levels and consistent bale weights are maintained in every bale.

Farmers had their first opportunity to inspect the baler after it was unveiled this week at the Farm Progress Show in Decatur, Illinois.

“What we’ve done with the introduction of our new I Series round baler is we have now integrated moisture and weight sensors on this baler,” says Chase Milem, marketing manager for John Deere. “Right from the factory, they’ll have the sensors on the baler and the operator can understand the moisture levels of the hay coming through the baler as well as the weights of each bale to make consistent bales and adjustments on the go.”

Deere is also touting the baler’s ability to reduce operator fatigue thanks to integrated technology that automates gate cycle functions. Milem notes that 1 Series automation will open and close the gate at the right time, eliminating repetitive tasks, reducing operator error and minimizing downtime, helping farmers get the most bales as quickly as possible.

Other features include a new 8-inch display that provides operators with total visibility and control over baling operations. The baler comes in eight models — the 451E, 451M, 451R, 461M, 461R, 551M, 561M and 561R. The “E” model indicates the baler is equipped with a regular pickup; the “M” denotes the baler is equipped with the MegaWide Plus pickup, and the “R” model shows the round baler is equipped with the high-capacity feeding system and an optional precutting feeding system.

Check out the interview below as Chase Milem and RealAgriculture’s Bernard Tobin discuss the features of the 1 Series round baler.
