Poll: What’s the most effective way to decrease fuel use?

by

The carbon tax, that “price on pollution,” as the Liberal government calls it, is supposed to encourage Canadians to move away from fossil fuel use by making diesel, gas, natural gas, and propane more expensive.

What the government has done or plans to do with the tax proceeds is a post for another day, but we do know that the proceeds collected from barn heating and grain drying is not an insignificant amount (we’re talking a billion dollars by 2030).

Independent of a rising carbon tax, fuel has always been an expensive input in farming. Many farmers have found ways to decrease the total fuel bill for economic and environmental reasons. But, we also know that fuel isn’t always easily swapped out for another energy source — and in some cases the technology isn’t at a scale or advancement that would make it feasible on-farm.

For this week’s poll we want to know what you think is the most effective way to lower agriculture’s fuel use.
