Syngenta launches new Vibrance Total pulse seed treatment

Pulse growers challenged with seedling disease pressure will have a new treatment option in Vibrance Total seed treatment from Syngenta Canada.

With five modes of action, Syngenta says this product offers broad-spectrum disease control against multiple pulse diseases, including pythium and ascochyta blight.

Vibrance Total features a new active ingredient, picarbutrazox, that delivers protection against 13 different pythium species found in western Canadian soils, the company says. Pythium is a serious pulse root pathogen, infecting the seeds and seedlings before emergence. It can result in plant death prior to seed germination and seedling death after emergence.

“When seedlings survive pythium infection, their roots are damaged and we see yield losses,” says Shad Milligan, seedcare technical lead for Western Canada with Syngenta Canada.“This is compounded by patchy plant stands, which are more susceptible to weeds and harvest issues.”

In small plot trials, seed treated with Vibrance Total showed a 38 per cent higher plant stand establishment over the inoculated pythium check in field peas, according to Syngenta.
