Mike Flynn ready to take the reins as Alberta Grains executive director

by

Following two years of many meetings, amalgamation votes, and reorganization — Alberta Wheat and Alberta Barley combined into a single organization, Alberta Grains, on August 1, 2023.

With that also came the need for a new executive director.

Mike Flynn was named to the position as of this week, bringing with him extensive leadership experience from a variety of sectors, including policing, residential development, the oil and gas sector, and emergency response management.

Although he admits that agriculture is unfamiliar territory, and an industry that he previously “took for granted” until pursuing the opportunity with Alberta Grains, he has come to realize how dynamic the members of the association are.

When asked about his goals over the coming months, Flynn emphasized the importance of “doing a lot of listening.” He says, “we’re going to be engaging in a lot of team building type of activities internally, and want to make sure that the team is — with me being the latest addition — building this thing together properly, and moving forward in the right direction.”
