Brett Kissel shares stories of farm succession, love of the Prairies in new Compass Project

It’s not every day that a country music star stops by RealAgriculture (though it does happen now and again, like when Corb Lund joined a LIVE!), so when Shaun Haney had the chance to speak with Brett Kissel, Juno Award-winning singer-songwriter, he went for it.

Kissel is in the middle of releasing four albums, all part of The Compass Project, which he explains in detail in the video below. The albums each have a compass point and a theme — including a greatest hits album that will feature live versions of some of Kissel’s biggest songs.

There’s also strong Prairie ties and personal stories shared in these songs, Kissel explains, as the story of his own family’s farm succession makes its way in to song. There’s also a love song to Alberta and the Foothills, with a special fourth verse that wasn’t part of the song at first.
