Farm Credit Canada launches AgExpert-connected 4R incentive program

Farm Credit Canada has added a sixth Sustainability Incentive Program for those who use FCC as their lending institution and use AgExpert Premium software.

Curtis Grainger, director of lending products and sustainability programs for Farm Credit Canada, explains that this latest program provides up to $2,000 for farms that already use or implement 4R nutrient stewardship on-farm.

This Sustainability Incentive Program is in addition to five other programs each in conjunction with an industry partner. They are: McCain Foods, Ducks Unlimited Canada, Canadian Roundtable for Sustainable Beef, Cargill and the Dairy Farmers of Canada.

Grainger explains that the maximum $2,000 payout would be for a customer with $400,000 or more in lending, and that the incentive is pro-rated to that amount. A customer with $200,000 in lending could receive $1,000, for example.

The incentive is meant to encourage more farmers to implement 4R nutrient stewardship, Grainger says, but it’s also a way to recognize farmers already using these best management practices.

“With all of our programs, there’s an important concept behind it. For one, they’re all industry led, which I think is really important… they are the people who know most about the industry itself. A critical piece of all these programs is we want to recognize the producers who are already doing the thing,” Grainger says.

Farmers must be using AgExpert Premium to qualify for this program, and Grainger explains that using the software also streamlines the process for applying for the incentive as it generates a report that is reviewed and signed off on by a 4R-designated agronomist. Hear more, below:
